About the role

🚀 Electrical and Electronic Engineer Degree Apprentice 🚀

Ready to launch your career in engineering with a company that’s shaping the future? Join Babcock as an Electrical and Electronic Engineer Degree Apprentice! 💡 Over our 4-year programme, you’ll be working towards a BEng in Electrical & Electronic Engineering while contributing to projects that boost national security. 🛡️ Learn from the best, get hands-on experience, and help make the world a safer, more secure place. 🌎

About the Programme:

Based at Devonport, the largest naval base in Western Europe, you’ll be part of a targeted development programme designed to set you up for an awesome career in electrical and electronic engineering. You'll get to dive into one of two exciting groups:

  • Facilities Engineering Group: You'll support and develop the electrical systems that power critical infrastructure across the dockyard. Think fault-finding, technical investigations, and designing new solutions to keep essential operations running smoothly and safely. You'll gain experience across the full lifecycle of engineering systems, mastering areas like power distribution, SCADA systems, and energy monitoring. ⚡
  • Marine Electrical Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) and Mission Systems (MS) Group: You'll get stuck into the full engineering lifecycle, from initial concept and design to implementation and ongoing support. You’ll develop skills in power systems, control and instrumentation, navigation, communications, mission systems, and surveys, building a solid understanding of marine engineering. 🚢

No matter which route you choose, you'll build the technical smarts and practical engineering know-how needed to thrive in a complex and highly regulated environment.

Your Education & Training:

You'll study for a BEng in Electrical & Electronic Engineering degree with the University of Exeter, delivered through a block-release model. Expect to cover topics like mathematics, mechanics, electronics, and engineering design – a super strong foundation! 📚 Alongside your studies, you’ll do placements across engineering teams at Devonport, putting your learning into action on real projects, with dedicated training, mentoring, and support from experienced engineers. You'll need to be on-site at Devonport at least three days a week and live within a reasonable commuting distance.

Future Prospects:

By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll be ready for roles like Electrical and Electronic Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer, or Electrical Power Systems Engineer at Devonport. You’ll also have the chance to work towards professional registration as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer, a recognised benchmark of engineering excellence. 🌟 As a global company, Babcock offers endless opportunities to level up your skills and advance your career, with clear pathways to becoming a Senior Engineer and beyond.

What You’ll Need:

  • 3 A Levels at ABB or above, including Maths ➕
  • T Level Distinction in an engineering-related subject (Grade C or above in the core component)
  • BTEC Extended Diploma at grade MMM (Merit, Merit, Merit) in an engineering-related subject
  • Equivalent qualifications might be considered.

Please note: This role is subject to security clearance. You must be a sole UK national and able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), Security Check (SC) and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPI) clearance. 💂
