What you'll be doing:
As an apprentice, you'll dive right into the action, assisting our dentists, hygienists, and therapists. You'll learn the ropes of chairside support, gaining practical skills relevant to your development, all under the watchful eye of a registered GDC professional. 🧑⚕️👩⚕️
- Provide essential dental chairside support, learning and applying skills as you progress.
- Maintain a thorough record of your training and induction, ensuring all sessions are signed off by your supervisor. 📝
- Work towards a nationally recognised qualification that will lead to your registration with the General Dental Council (GDC). 🎓
- Adhere to all practice policies and procedures to ensure a safe and efficient environment. ✅
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with the entire dental team. 😊
- Collaborate with the practice manager on administrative tasks, including pay and conditions. 📊
- Assist with reception duties and other clerical tasks as needed. 📞
- Prioritise your own health and safety, as well as that of your colleagues. 💖
Key tasks you'll master (with supervision):
- Develop and demonstrate competency in chairside support procedures.
- Learn to manipulate and apply various dental materials used in treatments.
- Become proficient in the use and knowledge of a wide range of dental instruments and equipment. 🛠️
- Master the decontamination and preparation of treatment rooms. 🌟
- Understand and implement decontamination equipment maintenance as per manufacturer guidelines. ⚙️
- Practice correct waste segregation and disposal in line with practice policies. ♻️
- Utilise the practice's computer and X-ray systems. 💻
- Accurately complete laboratory request forms and maintain meticulous records of all items sent and received. ✉️
- Ensure all laboratory work is checked and ready for each patient session. 👍
Key responsibilities
- Assist GDC registrants by providing dental chairside support duties.
- Maintain accurate logs of structured induction and ongoing compliance training.
- Follow all practice policies and procedures.
- Conduct decontamination and preparation of treatment rooms and equipment.
- Assist with reception and general clerical duties as required.
