About the role

Pharmacy Assistant Trainee 💊

Ready to dive into the world of healthcare and make a real difference? We're looking for motivated individuals eager to learn and grow as Pharmacy Assistant Trainees. This is your chance to gain invaluable experience, work with cutting-edge technology, and become a vital part of our patient care team! 🤝

What you'll be doing:

  • Mastering Your Skills: Learn to recognize your own learning edge and confidently ask for help from pharmacists and technicians when needed. 🧠
  • Patient-Focused Communication: Share important info about patients' medicines, requiring you to be clear, persuasive, and sometimes a little bit of a communication ninja. 🗣️
  • Precision Dispensing: Accurately and efficiently dispense medications for inpatients, following all Trust procedures. Accuracy is key! ✅
  • Improving Patient Outcomes: Work directly with patients (under expert supervision, of course!) to help them understand and use their medicines effectively. Your goal? To ensure everyone gets the best possible results from their treatment. ✨
  • Medication Education: Deliver clear and helpful medication education to patients during their hospital stay and when they're heading home. This means chatting tactfully and empathetically, even with those who might be having a tough time. 🤗
  • Safety First: Identify potential risks, follow all safety and security guidelines, and always connect with the team if you have questions about any interactions. Your vigilance keeps everyone safe. 🛡️
  • Overcoming Barriers: Communicate sensitive medicine information to patients with diverse needs, finding creative ways to overcome communication challenges – whether it's a language difference, a learning difficulty, or any other barrier. 🌍
  • Team Collaboration: Link up with other health and social care professionals to ensure a smooth handover and continuous patient care as patients move between different healthcare settings. 🏥➡️🏠
  • Reconciliation: Document patient medicine details accurately using our established templates. 📝
  • Stock Management: Keep designated wards stocked with medications, checking expiry dates and rotating stock like a pro. 📦
  • Controlled Drugs: Participate in the secure dispensing and supply of controlled drugs, adhering strictly to Trust procedures. 🤫
  • Returns & Checks: Help manage returned pharmaceuticals and conduct stock checks as per Trust procedures. 💯
  • Dynamic Rotations: Gain broad experience by rotating across different sectors like Mental Health, Primary Care Networks, and Acute Trusts, as part of your personalized learning plan. 🔄
  • Academic Success: Keep your College assignments and skills units on track and communicate any challenges promptly. 📚
  • Mentorship: Attend regular progress meetings with your assigned educational supervisor to guide your development. 🧑‍🏫

We're looking for individuals who are:

  • Eager to learn and develop new skills.
  • Team players with excellent communication abilities.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused.

This is an incredible opportunity to launch your career in a supportive and educational environment. If you're ready to make a positive impact and build a rewarding career, apply now! 🚀

Key responsibilities

  • Communicate sensitive patient medicine information, providing education and overcoming barriers to understanding.
  • Manage ward stock levels, including expiry date checks and stock rotation.
  • Work with other health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Recognise own limitations and refer to pharmacist/technician where necessary.
