About the role

Ready to dive into nature and kickstart your career? 🌿 NatureScot is on the hunt for two enthusiastic individuals to join our mission! This isn't just a job; it's an 18-month apprenticeship adventure on our stunning National Nature Reserves (NNRs) as a Land and Nature Apprentice (Nature Restoration Specialist Pathway). 🏞️

Work with our awesome reserve teams in Dumfries, tackling real-world challenges at Caerlaverock, Cairnsmore of Fleet, and Kirkconnell Flow. You'll be hands-on, learning essential skills for nature recovery – think habitat restoration, practical estate management, and even helping with cool conservation projects. 🌳🐿️

Most of your training will be on the job, out in the elements (yes, including Scottish weather! 🌦️), so be ready for some active, rewarding work. You'll gain experience in:

  • Habitat & Species Management: Get your hands dirty with woodland management, tree nurseries, peatland restoration, invasive species control, and more! 🌲
  • Practical Estate Work: Help with essential maintenance like fencing, path repairs, litter clearing, and equipment upkeep. 🛠️
  • Reserve Management: Learn what it takes to keep our NNRs thriving.
  • Project Management: Get a feel for how projects and finances work.
  • Monitoring: Assist with important wildlife surveys – from birds to butterflies! 🦋🐦
  • Working with People: Engage with volunteers, support events, promote responsible access, and even contribute to our social media! 📣

This is your chance to build practical skills, gain invaluable experience, and make a real difference to Scotland's nature. 🌱 Ready to answer the call of the wild? 📣
