About the role
We're looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a Kitchen Assistant! 🍳👧👦 You'll be working closely with our Nursery Cook to whip up healthy and delicious meals and snacks for our little ones (ages 0-5). This is a fantastic opportunity to learn the ropes of menu planning, food prep, and catering to specific dietary needs and allergies. ✨
You'll get hands-on experience with:
- Preparing nutritious meals and snacks that follow early years nutrition guidelines. 🍎🥕
- Assisting with meals that cater to individual dietary needs and allergies (under supervision).
- Understanding and managing food allergies and dietary requirements, always following the Nursery Cook's instructions.
- Mastering safe food preparation, storage, and serving techniques. 🧼
- Conducting food temperature checks and keeping accurate records. 🌡️
- Maintaining essential food hygiene records (temperature logs, allergen info).
- Upholding top-notch personal hygiene and kitchen cleanliness standards. 💯
- Washing crockery, cutlery, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Keeping our kitchen clean, safe, and organised, including equipment like ovens and freezers. 🧊
- Checking food deliveries and ensuring safe storage.
- Monitoring stock levels and identifying when supplies are needed. 🛒
- Minimising food waste and using resources efficiently. ♻️
- Supporting with meal and snack service throughout the day.
- Collaborating with nursery staff to ensure children's dietary needs are understood and met.
- Promoting positive mealtimes and encouraging healthy eating habits. 👍
- Assisting with cookery activities and nursery events when needed. 🎉
You'll also be expected to follow all nursery policies and procedures, including safeguarding, food hygiene, health & safety, and confidentiality. Please report any concerns regarding food safety, allergies, dietary requirements, equipment issues, or kitchen hygiene immediately. 🚨
Key responsibilities
- Assist with preparing and serving healthy meals and snacks, accommodating individual dietary requirements and allergies.
- Learn and follow safe food preparation, storage, and serving procedures.
- Support the maintenance of a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment.
- Assist with food temperature checks, record keeping, and stock monitoring.
- Adhere to all nursery policies and procedures, including those for safeguarding, food hygiene, and health and safety.
