Craft Tool Room Apprentice 🛠️✈️
Ready to kickstart your career and help build the future of aviation? Airbus is looking for passionate Craft Tool Room Apprentices to join our team at Broughton! This is your chance to get hands-on experience with real aircraft components and earn recognised qualifications.
What you'll be doing:
- Dive into practical, technical experience working directly on live aircraft components.
- Gain valuable skills in a 36-month apprenticeship, blending workplace learning with academic study.
- Year 1: You'll be based at Coleg Cambria, Bersham Road, Wrexham, working towards NVQ L2 diploma in Performing Engineering Operations, City & Guild 2850 Level 2 In Machining, and Level 2 Essential Skills. 📚
- Years 2 & 3: Your learning takes flight at Airbus Broughton! You'll join our expert Tool Makers, supporting the manufacture of wing skins, panels, and stringers for various Airbus aircraft. You’ll be involved in:
- Maintaining production jigs and tools, using a variety of machines.
- Carrying out planned maintenance and breakdown repairs on industrial equipment.
- Troubleshooting and repairing build jigs and associated tooling.
- Ensuring jigs and tools meet design criteria through recertification.
- You'll also attend college on day release to work towards NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering and City & Guilds 2850 Level 3 Machining. 🌟
- Upon completion, you'll become a Multi-skilled Tool Maker, with a Modern Apprenticeship Certificate and a clear path to a fantastic career. 🎉
What we're looking for:
- A genuine passion for learning and hands-on work.
- Enjoyment of teamwork and problem-solving.
- Minimum GCSEs:
- Grade C/4 in Maths (GCSE certificate only)
- Grade C/4 in English Language (GCSE certificate only)
- Grade CC/44 in Double Award Science
- OR Grade C/4 in Single award in Physics
- Plus 2 other GCSEs at grade C/4 (equivalents, especially in practical/technical subjects like Design & Technology or Engineering, are welcome).
- You need to be eligible to work in the UK. 🇬🇧

Key responsibilities
- Maintenance of production jigs/tools and use of various machines within the machine shop
- Carrying out routine Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs on Industrial Maintenance assets
- Demonstrating effective troubleshooting on all aspects of plant jigs and tools
- Repairing and maintaining build jigs and associated tooling using hand skills, engineering tools, and laser trackers
- Carrying out recertifications to jigs and tools to ensure they meet design criteria
