Join our Facilities Department and dive into the critical world of calibration at GE Aerospace! Ever wondered what keeps aircraft flying safely? It's precision measurement! As a Calibration Apprentice, you'll be at the heart of ensuring every pressure, temperature, and torque reading is spot-on, directly contributing to flight safety. βοΈ
Our team provides 24/7 support for our entire site, Production areas, and operations staff, ensuring we nail Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) for both our people and our cutting-edge products. Youβll be working with everything from basic instruments to complex test rigs, both in-house and with external partners. This is a fast-paced, highly regulated aerospace environment, so get ready to develop serious technical skills and learn to own your work. πͺ
Your 4-Year Apprenticeship Journey:
This isn't just a job; it's a launchpad! π You'll embark on a 4-year program to become a fully qualified Calibration Technician, plus an additional 6 months for your End Point Assessment (EPA).
- Year 1: Full-time immersion at Gloucestershire Engineering Training College (GET) to build your essential engineering knowledge. π
- Year 2: Blend your learning with one day a week at college and the rest of your time applying skills on the job. Real-world experience unlocked! π οΈ
- Year 3: Dive into your HNC Instrumentation course online (with Teeside University) while continuing to develop your practical skills and learn to calibrate live equipment. π»
- Year 4: Go full-time in the workplace, taking on more responsibility, becoming a key team member, and finalising your HNC and EPA assignments with dedicated support. π
Upon completion, you'll bag an HNC certificate in Instrumentation and Control Engineering! π
What You'll Be Doing:
As an apprentice, youβll learn to:
- Planned Calibration & Maintenance: Keep production equipment and instruments running accurately through scheduled checks. β
- Equipment Repairs & Adjustment: Diagnose and fix issues to minimise downtime β aim for a "First Time Fix"! π§
- Documentation & Traceability: Meticulously record calibration results and equipment history, ensuring everything meets strict aerospace standards. π
- Team Collaboration: Clearly communicate equipment status and findings to your engineering colleagues. π€
- Safety Compliance: Uphold health and safety procedures, as accurate calibration is a crucial safety control in itself! π·
- Continuous Improvement: Help refine calibration methods and boost equipment reliability. π±
- Regulatory Awareness: Stay sharp on the latest calibration standards and requirements. π§
What We're Looking For:
- Essential: 4x GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English at grades C/4 or above.
- Bonus Points: 3x A-Levels (or equivalent) in Maths or Engineering, or a Level 3 qualification in Engineering/Manufacturing.
- Your Mindset: Youβre a problem-solver, detail-oriented, a clear communicator, organised, self-motivated, and genuinely curious to learn. You're happy to roll up your sleeves and get involved! π‘

Key responsibilities
- Learn to perform scheduled calibration checks and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on production equipment, instruments, and site services.
- Diagnose faults in instruments and control systems, carrying out repairs and recalibration.
- Record calibration results and equipment history in engineering computer systems, maintaining full traceability and completing required quality documentation.
- Provide detailed handovers to engineering colleagues, ensuring calibration status and equipment condition are clearly communicated.
- Adhere to health and safety procedures, maintain a safe working environment, and support initiatives to enhance safety culture.
