About the role

Are you a curious soul with a knack for connecting with people? 🤔 Then we want YOU!

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is all about making life better by handling welfare, pensions, and child maintenance. We're on a mission to help folks find jobs, support our seniors, and look out for those who need it most. 🤝

Within the DWP, our Counter Fraud Compliance and Debt (CFCD) team is the ultimate squad dedicated to cracking down on fraud, errors, and debt in the benefit system. We're basically the guardians of public money! 💰 Your role as an Apprentice Compliance Officer will put you right at the centre of these vital efforts. This is a hugely important job, protecting the public purse, and the challenge is bigger than ever! 💪

If you're looking for an organisation that genuinely gets the importance of work-life balance, where you can level up your skills and kickstart your career, then CFCD is your place! 🚀

What you'll be doing as an Apprentice Compliance Officer:

Your day-to-day will be varied, shifting with what the business needs. So, we're looking for adaptable and flexible individuals who can roll with the punches. Here are some examples of what you might be getting up to:

  • Mastering Interviews: Conducting thorough and challenging interviews, whether on the phone or face-to-face, following all legal and policy rules and exploring every possible lead. 📞🗣️
  • Spotting & Fixing Errors: Making sure declarations and changes are reported on time and taking action to fix any mistakes you find. 🧐
  • Upholding Standards: Keeping quality top-notch by sticking to all DWP policies, procedures, and CFCD operational instructions. ✅
  • Team Player Extraordinaire: Working effectively, collaboratively, and flexibly within your team to smash those team goals. 🌟
  • Spreading Awareness: Championing fraud awareness within the DWP and with our external partners. 📣
  • Information Guru: Gathering, verifying, and assessing all the info needed to help make accurate benefit decisions and calculate overpayments. 📊
  • Record Keeper Extraordinaire: Maintaining precise records and keeping all relevant evidence safe, while redacting and annotating sensitive info when needed. 🗂️
  • Collaborative Connector: Liaising with other departments and organisations as part of existing partnerships. 🌐
  • Master of Priorities: Juggling your workload to handle changing and conflicting priorities like a pro. ⏱️

Please note: Due to the nature of this role, there might be occasional travel involved, and you may need to stay overnight. ✈️

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct robust and challenging interviews by telephone or in person
  • Ensure declarations and changes have been reported correctly and take appropriate corrective action if errors are found
  • Maintain quality standards through adherence to all DWP policy and procedures
  • Promote fraud awareness within DWP and to wider external business partners
