You'll be a vital support system, both in the classroom and one-on-one. What You'll Be Doing:
- Helping students learn effectively in groups and independently 🧠. This includes:
- Clarifying instructions and explaining concepts.
- Ensuring they can use provided equipment and materials.
- Motivating and encouraging them with tailored attention and support for learning tasks.
- Assisting in areas like speech and language, reading, spelling, math, and handwriting.
- Using praise and guidance to keep them focused and on track.
- Collaborating with teachers and specialists on Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contributing to their implementation 🧑🏫.
- Providing extra nurture and support when needed.
- Consistently applying agreed-upon behaviour management strategies.
- Helping to create and prepare resources that support the student's learning.
- Building positive and supportive relationships with the student.
- Promoting inclusion and encouraging positive interactions with peers 🤗.
- Monitoring the student's engagement with learning activities and adapting them as needed, in consultation with the teacher.
- Offering constructive feedback and praise to build confidence and self-reliance.
- Marking student work under the teacher's direction.
- Supporting the development of social skills both inside and outside the classroom.
- Assisting with the use of ICT and specific learning software.
- Providing regular updates to the teacher/SENCO on the student's progress and behaviour.
- Conducting and reporting on observations to gather evidence of student development.
- Applying positive handling techniques where appropriate.
- Adhering to all school policies (Child Protection, Health & Safety, Behaviour, etc.).
- Potentially fostering links between home and school, and sharing relevant information.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding student and family matters.
- Contributing to student progress reviews.
- Ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for yourself and others 🔒.
- Participating in training to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Supporting playground/break time activities, like educational games or homework clubs ⚽.
Key responsibilities
- Aid pupil learning and personal development through direct support and encouragement.
- Provide consistent pastoral support and implement agreed behaviour management strategies.
- Liaise and collaborate with teachers, SENCO, professionals, and parents regarding pupil progress and welfare.
- Promote the acceptance and inclusion of pupils and support their social skills development.
- Comply with school policies, including Child Protection and Health & Safety, to maintain a secure learning environment.
