Are you ready to get your hands dirty and play a vital role in keeping our golf course in tip-top shape? Join our team as a Golf Greenkeeper Apprentice and learn the ins and outs of maintaining a world-class playing surface! โณ
As a Greenkeeper, you'll be responsible for the upkeep and appearance of the entire golf course, ensuring it's always a challenging and enjoyable experience for golfers. You'll work across different turf areas โ from the pristine greens and tees to the fairways and rough โ each requiring unique care. ๐ฟ
Your training will involve mastering the safe and competent use of a variety of equipment and machinery. You'll also be involved in important environmental and ecological tasks, including bunker maintenance, planting turf and trees, and creating wildlife habitats. ๐ณ๐ฆ
Upon completion of your apprenticeship, you'll be a pro at:
- Maintaining high standards of health and safety for yourself and others. โ๏ธ
- Preparing the course for play, from clearing dew and debris off greens to raking bunkers and setting up tee markers. โจ
- Operating and maintaining machinery like tractors and ride-on mowers to keep all turf surfaces in prime condition. ๐
- Applying turf treatments, including fertilisers, to ensure top-quality playing surfaces. ๐ฏ
- Using integrated methods to manage weeds, pests, and diseases. ๐ซ
- Maintaining bunkers and other hazards like water features. ๐ง
- Working on drainage and irrigation systems. ๐ง
- Preparing ground for new turf and plants to enhance golf course features. ๐ฑ
You'll gain essential technical knowledge on:
- Monitoring and maintaining workplace health and safety. ๐ก๏ธ
- Identifying various grasses, weeds, pests, diseases, and plants. ๐
- Understanding soil and plant biology, including germination, photosynthesis, respiration, and transpiration. ๐ฌ

Key responsibilities
- Maintain good standards of health and safety for self and others
- Prepare the golf course for play which will include removing early morning dew and debris from the greens, raking bunkers, moving tee markers, cutting new holes on greens
- Prepare and use equipment and machinery to maintain and renovate all turf surfaces within the golf course
- Apply turf treatments to help produce quality playing surfaces, including fertilisers and top dressing
- Maintain and renovate bunkers and other hazards such as water features
Entry requirements
GCSE in: (English (grade Grade 9-3/A*-D or equivalent), Maths (grade Grade 9-3/A*-D or equivalent))
