The Opportunity: β¨ We're thrilled to announce a new and exciting apprenticeship role for an Apprentice Depot Operator to join our team at the Loch Ewe Oil Fuel Depot in Aultbea, Ross-shire, Scotland! This is your chance to kickstart a career in the vital world of bulk liquid storage.
Your Journey: You'll be enrolled in a comprehensive 30-month Bulk Storage Terminal Technician (BSTT) Apprenticeship programme. This isn't just about learning on the job; it's a nationally recognised apprenticeship designed to build your expertise across a wide range of operational and technical areas. You'll gain:
- Hands-on Plant Training: Develop your skills in all aspects of Terminal Operations. π οΈ
- Process Safety Insights: Dive deep into Process Safety study techniques, COMAH requirements, Human Factors, and Functional Safety. π§
- Industry Expertise: Learn from industry experts and our trusted apprenticeship providers, Reynolds Training Services. π
- Valuable Certifications: We'll equip you with all the relevant technical certificates needed to excel. β
The Plan:
- Year 1: Based at the Depot and HCF Catch Training Facility in Immingham, with block weeks of training. βοΈ
- Year 2: Primarily based at OFD Loch Ewe with mentorship, and allocated weeks back at the Catch Training Facility. π§βπ«
This programme offers a well-rounded exposure to all areas of Depot Operations, giving you the chance to make a real impact.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Operating and maintaining fuel storage plant and equipment (cleaning, painting, lubricating). ποΈπ§
- Managing pumping systems. βοΈ
- Configuring systems. π»
- Operating Oil Water separators. π
- Working in a team to receive and issue petroleum products to authorised customers. π
- Assisting with rigging and testing of fuelling hoses. πͺ
- Performing slinging operations. π
- Manual tank dipping and product sampling. ππ§ͺ
- Measuring fuel before, during, and after operations. π
- Operating various machinery and pumps. π’οΈ

Essential Qualifications:
- National 5 / Intermediate 1 / Credit Standard Grade in Maths, English, and a Science. π

- Starting Salary: Β£13,445 per year (age-dependent, rising to Β£20,625 in the final year). π°
- Working Hours: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday-Thursday, 7:30 am - 12:30 pm Friday (37 hours per week). β°

Key responsibilities
- Operate fuel storage plant, equipment, and pumping systems.
- Participate in the receipt and issue of petroleum products to customers.
- Conduct fuel measurement, tank dipping, and product sampling.
- Perform system configuration tasks.
- Undertake rigging, slinging, and fuelling hose testing operations.
